Wood Storks , like other indigenous wildlife, are unafraid to use the roads in Sun City Center.  They even make sure drivers come to a complete stop before attempting to cross intersections, such as the one at Sun City Center Plaza and Rickenbacker Dr.

Small Paper Wasps can be found nesting in the the Sun City Center area. They are just a tad bigger than our local love-bugs that have left us for the time being.

Paper Wasps may be small in size but they will attack and sting anything that threatens their nest.  So if you see some nesting anywhere on your house, stay clear and call your local pest control service.

It’s common to see pairs of Sandhill Cranes elegantly walking together in the neighborhood of Sun City Center. Once paired, these love birds stay together for life.

These pink freshwater Apple snail eggs are placed above the pond from its natural predators that live in the water.

Apple snails (Ampullariidae) have gills and lungs and therefore can live in and out of the water.

These particular eggs can be found at the pond by McDonald’s in Sun City Center, FL.

The Mediterranean Gull moves into Florida

Once exclusive in Europe, the Mediterranean Gull (Larus melanocephalus) has migrated to many parts of the world included the United States.

The distinctive markings on the Med Gull are its black head (hood), crescent white eyes a a contrasting dark red bill with black outlines.

The Med Gull bird takes two years to reach full maturity. In its first year, the gull has a black terminal tail band and more black feathers in the upper wings with lighter feathers under the wings.

Carpenter Ants do not eat wood but borough inside to nest

Indigenous to Sun City Center, Florida, Carpenter ants do not actually eat wood but do borough inside tress and wooden structures to nest.

They can normally be spotted crawling outside on plants, rotten wood piles, dead trees and on some houses. However, if you see a lot of these ants inside your house, don’t be alarmed. just call your local exterminator and they will take care of the problem.
